Despite the uncharacteristically warm winter we’ve been having here in Ohio, I determined I needed a new coat. Okay, so I may not have needed a new coat – but I couldn’t stop eyeing those squishy puffy coats. They just look so warm and comfy. I have been wearing the same pea coats for years. Pea coats are very professional and practical for special occasions. But I find them to be slightly restricting and itchy. (anyone else?)
I received several gift cards to Nordstrom for Christmas so I decided to put them together and splurge on a good puffy coat. I searched and searched and came across the Bernardo PrimaLoft Hooded Jacket. (I believe it is currently out-of-stock, sorry friends). From the pictures it looked warm and stylish – win-win! I read the reviews, and though most came from Californian’s – I decided to purchase it! (Because clearly California weather resembles Ohio weather. What?)
I was pretty disappointed when I received the coat in the mail. It was so light weight and seemed way too thin to keep me warm. Without even trying it on, I boxed it up and prepared to ship it back. My co-workers were actually the ones who convinced me to at least try wearing it for a few days before dismissing it. So I gave it a shot.
Guess what – I love it! It is ridiculously warm and the best part – it is so light weight that it doesn’t even feel like I am wearing an annoying winter coat. The PrimaLoft insulation is a revolutionary “down alternative”. It “looks like down, feels like down, warm like down”. But its not down.
“Originally developed to serve the needs of the U.S. Army, who desired a water resistant, synthetic alternative to goose down, PrimaLoft, Inc. is recognized globally as the proven leader and constant pioneer of innovative comfort solutions.” (http://www.primaloft.com/about)
Needless to say, I am quite happy with my new coat, and I have learned the age ol’ lesson, “don’t judge a book by it’s cover.” Thank goodness I tried it on before sending it back!!
