Oh Nicole – these are some great years, embrace them! I know you feel like what you are experiencing right now is the “be all, end all” – but I promise you it’s not. Just relax and enjoy the moments, they are going to fly by. Graduation comes faster than you could ever imagine and before you know it, you’re attending your 10 year class reunion. I am not kidding!
Surprisingly, boys are not that important right now! I guarantee you would be just as happy single as you think you are taken. And guess what? That boy you think is the.best.thing.that.could.ever.happen.to.you is NOT the person you marry! I know you don’t believe me right now, but it is TRUE. Stop allowing him to have such a hold on you. Be yourself, love yourself. His ideals and opinions do not define you! In fact, when he breaks up with you, let him go and move on. I promise, you will not regret it. If you can swing it, just be single until the special one comes. The love of your life comes much later than expected, but trust me he is totally worth the wait!
You will regret being such a sass to your parents. Believe me when I say, they are always right. They really have been where you are and they just want the best for you. Listen to them, thank them for all they do, hug them and laugh with them. In a blink of an eye you will be on your own and wishing you had appreciated the time you had with them. You will be able to leave your momma’s side. I know it seems impossible now, but you can do it. Don’t worry; she is never more than a phone call away. And *spoiler alert*, once you are married, you only live 3 minutes away from her. Oh, and stop being so nasty to your dad. I know he seems frustrating to live with right now and for some strange reason he drives you up the wall. But he adores you, and in a few years you will love spending time with him. Don’t waste away your time now, he is really fun and makes you laugh a lot. And that little mean sister of yours, she looks up to you so much. Sometimes she feels jealous, which is ridiculous because she is so pretty with those gorgeous long locks and she has more talent in her pinky finger than you do in your whole body. But aside from that, she really does love you. And one day you will miss her tons. Be her best friend now. She is the only friend that will always be by your side.
Those high school friends that you think will be there forever; you won’t be seeing much of them. You do find two very special people who will be your lifelong friends, along with your baby sis. So no need to fret, you will be surrounded by amazing people. But appreciate those closest to you now, because the crowd changes quickly.
And Nicole, stop straying away from the Lord. He wants a relationship with you now. Don’t think of reading your bible as just one more thing. I know it feels like a chore, but do it. It will be helpful later. Life will not always be easy, but He will always be there. He should be the number one man in your life right now. He definitely won’t let you down.
Ultimately, just breathe and enjoy all that you have to look forward to. Prom is so much fun, you will never forget wearing those beautiful dresses and dancing the night away. One of your dreams comes true during your junior year when you get the lead role in the fall musical. Choosing a college will be scary, but you will know. And though you aren’t really part of the “popular crowd”, you truly are liked by everyone, and don’t let the “labels” define you. Nicole, you are special, don’t forget it.
