Hey Broken But Adored readers (if there are any of you left). I know it’s been pretty quiet over here. In addition to my long-lasting writers block, we have also been preparing for some big life changes. I am excited to announce that we have a little one on the way, due August 6th.
On Thanksgiving Day, I took a test and the 2 pink lines were as clear as could be – we were pregnant! But, since it was very early on, we planned to keep it a secret for as long as we could. Needless to say, Thanksgiving was a pretty tough day to keep a secret – surrounded by all our families. We shared the news with our parents and siblings just a week after finding out, and 2 days after my first doctor’s appointment which confirmed the test results. Then we all kept our lips sealed until after my 11-week ultrasound.
For the first few months it did not seem real to me! I often would forget I was pregnant until someone would mention it. Besides the nausea – nothing else in my life felt different. And it has only been recently that I have experienced subtle fluttering in my stomach to remind me of the growing life inside. Such craziness. It truly is a complete miracle from God.
Currently I am enjoying the blissful 2nd trimester. But my goodness was that 1st tri a doozy. The first couple weeks upon finding out, I felt pretty normal. The only thing I noticed was my increase in smell sensitivity – scented trash bags were my biggest aversion – non-scented trash bags were purchased asap! Then came week 6/7 and the nausea hit. I experienced some “morning sickness” but my worst times were after 9pm. I felt so nauseous and unsettled, and struggled to keep much down. I lost about 4 lbs during the 1st trimester.
I’m in my 21st week now and am just starting to show. I purchased several pairs of maternity bottoms from Old Navy because my current work pants were getting a tad uncomfortable and the hair tie trick on the jeans just wasn’t cutting it anymore. So far I don’t require any maternity tops. We’ll see how long that lasts. But my go-to maternity place is, and will be, Old Navy – they have an excellent selection of affordable and trendy pieces.
Last week my husband and I went to my 20-week ultrasound appointment to find out the gender. There was NO WAY I was waiting to find out until delivery. Then my husband and I threw a small “Gender Reveal Party” for our immediate families this past Sunday.
Yep, its a girl!!! We are so very excited! And now comes the baby purchases and decorating! We have not purchased 1 baby item yet – I think I was just waiting to find out what it was and allow that to inspire and direct me. First task will be tackling the spare bedroom – and making it into the perfect little nursery. Wow, now it is all starting to seem a little more real.
My hope is to post little tidbits; giving weekly “bumpdates” for the remainder of the pregnancy and revealing the baby room transformation, etc.
